Definition of wait_state

 


MVS can be in a wait state that is either enabled or disabled. An enabled wait state generally means no work is available to be done or a major subsystem has abnormally terminated. The PSW wait bit is on and some or all interrupts are enabled. A disabled wait state infers that there is a serious problem that MVS cannot resolve on it's own such as no available system console during the IPL process. In this case all interrupts are disabled
