VM/CMS CP MESSAGE Command


Send a message to the system operator or other user


Any Priviledge Class



The MESSAGE command is used to send a message to other users or the system operator or
yourself.

Parameters:

userid The id of the receiving user.

* Yourself.

OPERATOR The system operator.

messageText The message text the lenght of which is limited to the remaining length of the line.

Sys Responses:

(from the system operator)
hh:mm:ss
MSG FROM OPERAOTR: messageText

(from another user)
hh:mm:ss
MSG FROM {LOGONxxx} messageText
{userid }
{LOGNxxxx}

where LOGON and LOGN are from users that are not logged on to VM/370. xxx is the line number.

Notes: If the terminal receiving the message is busy it will be displayed at when the terminal
finishes it's current task.

If the receiving user (including system operator) has "Set MSG ON" in effect the bell will sound.

If the recieving user is not logged in the message is discarded and will have to be resent at
a later time. The send is notified of this condition.
